Who we are

Tarmasters Asphalt Paving is a Kansas City–owned asphalt contractor based in Lee's Summit, MO. We have been paving driveways and parking lots across the metro since 2014, on both sides of the state line.

Tarmasters is the asphalt division of Ford Concrete and Paving, owned by Aaron Ford. The concrete side of the business has been working in the Kansas City area for years; Tarmasters is where the asphalt work lives. Same ownership, same standards, same phone number to call when something needs attention.

How we approach the work

Asphalt fails from underneath. That is why the grade comes first — the site has to shed water rather than hold it, because standing water works into the base and breaks it apart from below. Then the stone base goes in and gets compacted, sized to the load it has to carry.

The asphalt goes down at the thickness the use calls for — a driveway and a lot that takes delivery trucks are not the same build — and it gets rolled to full compaction while it is still hot. Once it cools you cannot get that density back, and density is the difference between a surface that sheds water and one that lets it in.

We handle it in-house with our own equipment, so one team is accountable from the estimate to the final coat. If a repair will hold, we will say so. If it will not, we will tell you that too, and explain what we would do instead.
